1st Kempston Boys Brigade

The Boys Brigade is one of the biggest Christian Youth Organisations in the UK & Republic of Ireland. We are committed to seeing lives enriched by supporting children and young people to reach their full potential by providing opportunities to meet together and engage in a range of fun and developmental activities and experiences.

The 1st Kempston Company was founded in February 1959 by Mr. Dennis Bellamy. Here at Kempston East we are proud that the boys can use our facilities for their meetings and activities. For more info check out their website:

All sections meet on a Friday night with Anchor Boys and the Junior Section starting at 6, and Company/Seniors meeting at 7.

Our Sections

Anchor Boys
(6pm-7pm)

The Anchor Boys' are the youngest section of our company, age 5-7 years (school years 1, 2 & 3).

Like the other sections they also complete a number of skills, this earns them Anchor Boy achievement awards.

A typical Friday night will start off with games, these include; stuck in the mud, port 'n' starboard, basketball and lots more.

Junior Section
(6pm-7:30pm)

The Junior Section is for Boys aged 8 – 10 (school years 4, 5 & 6). Like the other sections the Juniors also follow a badgework scheme, this enables them to develop good leadership skills and enjoy participating in games and activities.

Junior section life is all about having fun and there are buckets full of that!!

Most of our Juniors also get to enjoy the annual camp (most parents enjoy the rest too!) and with a number of experienced sports leaders our Junior Section, this is a fantastic experience.

Company Section
(7pm-9:30)

The company/senior section is for lads aged 11 - 18 (school years 7 +) and it provides members with lots of fun and exciting opportunities.

There is a badge work scheme which covers areas like Skills, Community and Recreation. This is a fun way of developing good personal skills and gaining plenty of awards.

We also compete in various national and battalion competitions such as Table Tennis, Football, Band, Chess & National Ten Pin Bowling.

Company section is a busy but fun place to be, and if all this is not enough there is also the opportunity to gain the highest awards in the Brigade: The Presidents Badge, The Queen's Badge and the Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

Seniors
(7pm-9:30+)

The Seniors as the name suggests are the older age group of BB members (15-19). This group still have lots of fun going on Cinema and Bowling trips and participating in many of the national competitions, like football, table tennis and ten pin bowling.

One of the purposes of
the seniors is to encourage older lads to become good leaders and to do this we operate a number of empowerment initiatives.

One of the ways they do this is they help lead our younger groups.

Aside from these various projects the seniors also complete the Queens Badge, the highest award available to BB members. This requires them to become actively involved with local community projects and general BB life.

"Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul,
both sure and steadfast,
and which entereth into that within the veil.”
